TR-Log for NS

Fortunately, TR-Log can be easily configured for NS.  It correctly allows, and scores, both multipliers per-band as well as legal dupes.  Simply edit the following statements in your LOGCFG.DAT file:

CONTEST = INTERNET SPRINT (turns off dupe checking)
CONTEST NAME = NCCC SPRINT (corrects the contest name in the display and on the log pages)
ADD DOMESTIC COUNTRY = KH6 (makes KH6 work in NAQP.DOM)
DOMESTIC FILENAME = NAQP.DOM (adds KH6 as a multiplier)
DOMESTIC MULTIPLIER = DOMESTIC FILE (uses NAQP domestic multipliers)
EXCHANGE MEMORY ENABLE = TRUE (turns on the Exchange Memory for Initial Exchange pre-fill)
INITIAL EXCHANGE = NAME QTH (turns on Initial Exchange pre-fill using TRMASTER.DTA)
MULT BY BAND = TRUE (credits band-multipliers)

If a parameter (the first part of a statement prior to the =) on this list is not in your LOGCFG.DAT file, then add the statement.  If a parameter is in your LOGCFG.DAT file, then change the second part of the statement (after the =) to match the statement above.

I recommend that you not build a LOGCFG.DAT file from scratch for the Internet Sprint.  If you do it this way, you have to remember or re-invent all your exchanges and the the various configuration parameters that you had in Sprint and edit them into this newly created LOGCFG.DAT file.

Instead, take a LOGCFG.DAT file for Sprint that works well for you, configured the way you want it for Sprint.  Then, edit only the eight statements above.  Doing this leaves your messages and all the other Sprint parameters you customized.  All that changes with these eight edits above is that dupes are turned off, multipliers count per band and the screen looks like the Internet Sprint screen, but the scoring is correct for NS.

Notes:

  • The first configuration statement above (CONTEST = INTERNET SPRINT) must be prior to the other seven edited statements in your LOGCFG.DAT file.  Otherwise, it will override them.  Instead, you want the second - eighth statements to override those parameters set by the first statement.
  • Dupe checking is turned off all together.  Thus, the program does not check for one intervening QSO between legal dupes on the same band as specified in the NS rules.  This is one detail that the operator has to keep track of by watching the last few recent QSOs in the visible log.
  • The SUMMARY.DAT file from the POST/REPORTS/SUMMARY operation will need some minor editing:
    • Change the title from 'Internet Sprint' to 'NCCC Sprint'
    • Add a 'Mults' column to the right-hand side of the table and enter the band multipliers and total multipliers from the similar table at the top of the logging screen.
    • Edit the Score with the Score shown at the top of the logging screen.
  • To create a proper Cabrillo log, temporarily edit the CONTEST = SPRINT, run POST and create LOG.CBR, then edit CONTEST = INTERNET SPRINT back again.  This will insert your sent serial number into the Cabrillo log rather than the NAME received in the prior QSO.

North American Countries

If you use Alt-G to swap your visible multiplier list from domestic (the default) to DX countries, you get the entire DXCC list from the CTY.DAT file, not just the NA multipliers.  To see only the NA multipliers, that are valid for NS, make a special CTY.DAT file and store it in the directory with your NS LOG.DAT file.  Leave the normal CTY.DAT in the LOG directory with the rest of TR-Log's program and data files.

To create the special CTY.DAT file, use a text editor and append the text from MULTS.NA to the end of a copy of the current CTY.DAT file you normally use and store this special CTY.DAT file in the directory with your NS LOG.DAT file.  With MS-DOS positioned in this directory, execute TR.EXE and it will read this special CTY.DAT file instead of the normal one and when you perform an Alt-G, you will get the correct NA country multiplier list (MULTS.NA).

This is a standard Remaining Mults technique described by K2MM on the TR-Log web site for use in NAQP and NA Sprint.
